Animals Keeping Cool at Brookfield Zoo

What: With temperatures expected to be worse tomorrow and Thursday than even today, the Animal Programs staff at Brookfield Zoo are helping the animals keep cool. In addition to having water misters in the exhibits and giving baths to the animals, several will be treated to huge blocks of ice—some donated by Lang Ice and others made at the zoo that are filled with a variety of meat and fruit.

When: The schedule for the ice distribution tomorrow, July 20, is:
  • 9:15 a.m. Sloth bears Hani and Kartik will be receiving mid-size blocks of ice filled with a
  • variety of juices, peanuts, fruits, and ginger
  • 9:30 a.m. African lions Isis and Zenda will receive several large ice blocks some filled with
  • chunk meat
  • 9:45 a.m. Amur tiger Tiara will receive a few larger ice blocks some filled with chunk meat and
  • topped Calvin Klein’s Obsession.
  • 10:10 a.m. Polar bear Hudson will receive a huge ice block filled with a variety of treats such as
  • raisins, peanuts, pears and other fruit.
  • 10:20 a.m. Grizzly bears Axhi and Jim will be getting huge ice blocks filled with a variety of
  • treats such as peanuts, juices, and fruit
  • 10:30 a.m. Polar bear Aussie will be getting a 400-pound block of ice and a few smaller ice
blocks filled with treats
