FREEze Day at Brookfield Zoo Features Dog Sledding Demonstrations and Winter Activities for the Whole Family

Brookfield, IL— Celebrate the dog days of winter on FREEze Day, Sunday, January 24, at Brookfield Zoo. Sponsored by American Airlines, FREEze Day will feature free winter activities throughout the day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the zoo’s West Mall.

Join members of the Green Valley Dog Drivers (GVDD), a Lemont-based dog sledding organization that works with rescued dogs, as they host a series of demonstrations with their four-legged friends. During the event, GVDD members will engage guests in games and demonstrate sled runs and musher talks with their canine teams.

Guests will also enjoy appearances by Raven, a Native American storyteller and flute player and Pat Moon, a 2010 Iditarod driver. In addition, a representative from Free Spirit Siberian Rescue, a non-profit organization working to reduce the number of homeless Siberian huskies in Illinois, will be available to discuss the benefits of adopting dogs with zoo guests.

REI will also be at the event with snowshoes that guests can try while at the zoo (snow dependent). Snowshoeing is easy, great fun and perfect for Midwest winters. No special footwear needed, just be dressed for the outdoors. Also at the REI tent, winter gear will be on display.

Admission to Brookfield Zoo is free every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday in January and February, including on January 24. In addition, admission to Children’s Zoo and the Play Zoo will be free on January 24. Parking is $9. For more information, visit www.CZS.org or call (708) 688-8000.

Celebrating its 75th year, the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. Open every day of the year, Brookfield Zoo is located off First Avenue between the Stevenson (I-55) and Eisenhower (I-290) expressways and is also accessible via the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Metra commuter line, CTA, and PACE bus service.
