Whale Lecture at Brookfield Zoo Features National Geographic Photographer Flip Nicklin
Brookfield, Ill.—Join Flip Nicklin, National Geographic photographer and marine biologist, for “A Life with Whales,” an inspiring presentation about humpback and killer whales at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, in Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center.
During this final lecture in the Chicago Zoological Society’s spring series, Nicklin—who is regarded as one of the world's leading photographers of whales—will share humpback and killer whale photos and audio tracks that he has captured while spending summers in the Pacific Northwest and the Gulf of Alaska, as well as winters off Maui in Hawaii. With more than 5,500 dives at depths of up to 90 feet, Nicklin has been able to capture and record whale behavior.
Over the past 25 years, he has photographed more than 30 species of whales and dolphins. In 2001, he cofounded Whale Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and public education. The organization’s mission is to promote, support, and conduct scientific research on whales and the marine environment and to develop public education programs based directly on results of scientific research.
Nicklin has written numerous articles and several books, including Among Giants: A Life with Whales and Face to Face with Whales.
The lecture, which is followed by a wine and cheese reception, costs $16 per person. For reservations or further information, visit www.CZS.org/Events or call (708) 688-8000.
The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, inspires conservation leadership by connecting people with wildlife and nature. Open every day of the year, Brookfield Zoo is located off First Avenue between the Stevenson (I-55) and Eisenhower (I-290) expressways and is also accessible via the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), Metra commuter line, CTA, and PACE bus service.
