IN THIS EXHIBIT
Your Tropic World
experience begins outdoors the moment you set foot on the winding path leading to the forests of the three continents you will visit in this exhibit.
First, stop and see how you measure up to primates at the different stations. Put your hand up against the molded hand of an orangutan or a gorilla. Next, get ready to climb up into the forest. Your journey begins on the forest floor. As you climb higher, you will find yourself way up in the forest canopy, with the vantage point of a true scientist. From here, you will be able to see primates on the move from tree to tree as they will walk, run, swing, or leap.
You’ve arrived at your first destination—South America
. A refreshing waterfall welcomes you. As you cross the bridge, look below to see how high you have climbed. Circle around to see a black-handed spider monkey, a callimico, cotton top tamarin, and more. You will even spot an anteater.
Next, venture into the serene comfort of Asia
. Listen for magpie robins up above and tree shrews moving around the forest. Leaf through the Orangutan Family Album to see if you can point out the different family members. There’s Maggie, Brunei, Kekasih, Ben, and Sophia. Catch a glimpse of Asian small-clawed otters scurrying about trying not to be noticed.
Finally, you will find yourself in Africa
. Who will catch your eye first in this tropical forest? Will it be a red-capped mangabey, a sooty mangabey, a colobus monkey, or a mandrill? As you venture around the forest canopy, you will notice the Western lowland gorillas in the distance.
Take a quick left turn and you will see a family of gorillas brought together by our participation in the Species Survival Plan, an Association of Zoos and Aquarium breeding program. Meet JoJo, our new silverback gorilla and leader of the troop. Click to read more about him and his new family!
