It’s easy to curb your greenhouse emissions by reducing your energy consumption. Here are some more simple suggestions to cut down your carbon footprint.

  • Plant Trees. Work your way towards becoming carbon neutral. Trees transform CO2 into oxygen and planting them helps offset the amount of CO2 your lifestyle puts into the atmosphere.
  • Power Down and Clean Up. By simply replacing your current washing machine with a low-energy, low-water-use model, you can reduce your CO2 emissions by 440 pounds per year! For even more savings, planetary and monetary, wash your clothes in warm, or better yet, cold water. This pushed your CO2 savings to 500 pounds per year.
  • Keep Your Water Heater Cozy. If you water heater is more than five years old, wrap it in an insulating jacket. This reduces your CO2 emissions by 100 pounds. To increase your results by more than five times, just keep your thermostat set at no higher than 120 F.
  • Put The Freeze on Inefficient Appliances. Upgrade any old, energy-inefficient appliances with newer, high-energy-efficiency models.
  • Reduce, Reuse, And Recycle. You’ve heard it a million times, but by reducing the garbage you put on the curb by 25% you’re eliminating 1000 pounds of CO2 emissions! Close the loop by, whenever possible, purchasing products made from recycled materials.
  • Don’t Give Energy Away. Caulking and weather stripping your windows and doors not only saves you money, but reduces CO2 emissions.
  • Be a Turn Off. Turn off your TV, radio, videogame console, and computer when you’re not using them. Turn your lights off too, when you’re not using them. Better yet, replace all the light bulbs in your house with energy efficient CFL’s.
