Dolphin Birth at Brookfield Zoo

The Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, is happy to announce the birth of a male dolphin calf born on Wednesday, October 16. The calf, born to Tapeko, 31, is approximately 40 pounds and 3.5 feet long. Please note that Brookfield Zoo's Dolphin Presentations have been temporarily canceled to allow Tapeko and her calf time to bond and get acquainted with the other dolphins in the group. Although the calf and his mom are currently off exhibit, the Seven Seas underwater viewing gallery will remain open.  more...

The Chicago Zoological Society (CZS) received Top Honors for the 2013 Angela Peterson Excellence in Diversity Award from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) at its national conference, which was held in Kansas City, Missouri, last week. Randall Wells, Ph.D., Nominated for Prestigious Indianapolis Prize

The Chicago Zoological Society is proud to announce that Randall Wells, Ph.D., senior conservation scientist for the Society and director of the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, based in Florida’s Mote Marine Laboratory, has been nominated for the biennial Indianapolis Prize, the world’s leading award for conservation.
