Chicago Zoological Society Announces Winners of 2013 Photo Contest
Brookfield, Ill.—From giraffes and Everest, a 4-month-old snow leopard cub, to lions and a variety of reptiles and birds, the Chicago Zoological Society, which manages Brookfield Zoo, received more than 400 entries for its 2013 Photo Contest. A panel of professional photographers judged the photos, from which they selected a grand prize winner and first-, second-, and third-place winners in two categories: adult and child (11 and under). The winning photos are on display in Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center lobby. They may also be viewed online at www.CZS.org/PhotoContest.
Randolph Badiola of Schaumburg won the grand prize with his photo of a green heron. He received an airline voucher for round-trip main cabin air transportation for himself and a companion to any destination within the contiguous 48 states (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico served directly by American Airlines.
Winners in the adult category are: Mario Cortez of Sandwich, first place; Jim Klepac of Oak Lawn, second place; and Alice Jacobs of Olympia Fields, third place. Tom Morris of Bartlett and Katie Ramirez of Darien each received an honorable mention.
Winners in the 11-and-under child category are: Vincent Gallichio of Elmhurst, first place; Daria Tersina of Mount Prospect, second place; and Jamie Smith of Chicago, third place.
The Photo Contest was sponsored by American Airlines. Photos were matted courtesy of House of Color in Countryside.
