Dolphins as Pollution Banks
By Dr. Brian Balmer
September 17
Because pollutants accumulate in their blubber, dolphis are sensitive indicators of these compounds in coastal ecosystems. Dr. Brian Balmer, staff scientist with the Sarasota Dolphin Research Program, studies dolphin group structure through radio tracking and photo indentification. He will share what they have learned about the effects of pollution on dolphins.
