Every day is Earth Day at Brookfield Zoo, but on this very special day we will be showcasing some of the steps you can commit to that will truly make a difference for animals across the globe. This year we will focus on Grevy's zebras that are currently listed as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.  To help ensure the survival of this species, Brookfield Zoo helps to cooperatively manage Grevy's zebras through a Species Survival Plan (SSP), coordinated by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association.  Under this plan, zoos strive to protect the Grevy's zebra from extinction through long-term captive breeding.

Party for the Planet will be filled with activities that will be educational, engaging and fun for the entire family, including:

TOUR OUR ECO EXPO:
On the North Mall and inside the Pavilions you'll find displays by eco-friendly companies with representatives who will be able to share the latest in their fields and discuss products that will help the environment. You can also recycle your old cell phones and accessories, iPods and Mp3 players, handheld game systems, GPS units, laptops, E-readers, and portable hard drives.

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING:
Before entering the zoo, located in the North parking lot, make sure to drop off old electronics you would like to recycle!
Electronic waste is now banned from Illinois landfills and may not be discarded in your regular trash.

ENJOY ENTERTAINMENT ON THE PARTY FOR THE PLANET STAGE:
Throughout the day the stage in the Bison Pavilion will host artists who deliver a GREEN message through fun and interactive entertainment.

RIDE THE POOP TRAM:
The Poop Tram has returned! Board our special free zoo tram at the east end of Tropic World for a fun narrated tour to Brookfield Zoo's state-of-the-art compost facility. Tram tours leave at 11:30 and 12:30, weather permitting. The trams, sponsored by Nicor, are powered by clean-burning natural gas.

RECORD YOUR WISH FOR THE PLANET ON THE PLAZA:
Help us create a sidewalk mural, recording visitors' wishes and personal resolutions on how to adopt a greener lifestyle. Sidewalk chalk will be provided on the North Mall and all ages are encouraged to share their conservation-inspired artistry.

TOUR THE CLEAN AIR CLUB BUS:
Tour the 45-foot brightly colored bio diesel fueled bus, featuring hands-on, interactive exhibits. The bus, painted with whimsical rainbows, clouds, birds and butterflies, will showcase several interactive exhibits.

PLANT SOME GREEN:

We'll have a number of planting activities occurring throughout the zoo.

ZOO CHATS:

Zoo animal keepers and zoo volunteers will be present throughout the day to inspire conservation leadership by sharing insights on how our actions at home impact animals across the globe. Check back soon for times and locations.
