Birthday for Affie Elephant
Affie African Elephant
Pachyderm pals of all ages are invited to join in the 38th birthday celebration for Affie, one of the African elephants at Brookfield Zoo. The gargantuan party takes place on Saturday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. in front of the elephant yard.
Affie will make her grand entrance as guests, led by children’s entertainer Steve Accardo, sing a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” to the 11,200-pound birthday girl. She will be presented with an enormous cake made with some of her favorite food items, including carrots, bananas, apples, bread, watermelon, cantaloupe, and hay. Zoogoers are also invited to sign their birthday wishes to Affie on an oversized card. In addition, volunteers will be on hand to engage youngsters in learning about the importance of African elephant conservation and discovering fun, mammoth facts about the species.
Afterwards, guests can continue the celebration at the Nature Stage, just east of the elephant yard, during a performance by Accardo, whose repertoire of songs include “On My Elephant,” “Lady Bug on the Rug,” “Smiling Blue Dolphins,” and “The Funny Bunny Dance.”
