IN THIS EXHIBIT
ANIMALS
Get up-close, and underwater, views of some animals that have a pretty unusual thing in common—their feet!
Pinniped means “fin-footed,” and all of the creatures found here have fins or flippers to help them move in and out of the water. Many of these animals’ traits reveal clues about their way of life—how they hunt, communicate, mate, and survive harsh conditions.
Watch as sea lions skillfully dive in and out of waves. Their long fins help them steer in water and maneuver on land. The harbor seals have similar adaptations, in addition to dark eyes that allow them see at incredible ocean depths.
Roam the winding docks through this exhibit and open your mind to learn about the success and struggle of pinnipeds in the wild.
