Tropic World
IN THIS EXHIBIT
ANIMALS
Inside, a waterfall crashes and monkeys chatter. Before long, you realize that Tropic World—among the largest indoor animal exhibits on the globe—has brought you closer to the jungle than you ever imagined.
Your first encounter is the habitat of South America, where spider monkeys scramble high in the trees. A golden lion tamarin peeks through leaves. Everywhere you look, primates are choosing where to climb, what to eat, and how to behave.
Asia is quieter—unless the morning calls of white-cheeked gibbons echo across the stones. These primates swing from tree branches 30 feet above the ground, moving up to 20 feet in a single swing! Orangutans prefer to relax in nests or explore mounds of hay in their tree house. And, down below, small-clawed otters slide through a river.
Finally, the scents and sounds of the African forest. Primates from lanky mangabeys to long-furred colobus and brightly-colored mandrills will amaze you. The western lowland gorillas are also outstanding, of course. Watch them from the canopy, read up on their family heritage, and maybe spot a toddler or two.
Before you leave, take a look in the mirror to see another primate...guess who!
