The Living Coast Internship
Inside of this amazing exhibit, visitors take a unique journey along the South American coastline of Chile and Peru. Under the cold Atlantic waters, they encounter moon jellies, several species of shark, green sea turtles, and various schooling fish. Up near the rocky shoreline, through the kelp forests, visitors can find sea horses, anemones, nudibranchs, and starfish. Then they are transported to one of the world’s hottest deserts, home to animals such as Humboldt penguins, vampire bats, and Inca terns.
This multi-taxa exhibit provides interns with broad experience in animal behavior, preparation of varied diets, water and environmental quality knowledge, behavioral enrichment and training, and other aspects of animal management.
Interns work closely with keepers in all areas of the building. Additionally, interns are expected to complete a short research project on a related topic of their choice.
