Aardvark Born at Brookfield Zoo

Brookfield Zoo is happy to announce the birth of an aardvark on January 12. And, because of the dedicated care provided by the Society’s zookeepers, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and nutritionist, the now healthy 13-pound calf has a bright future ahead of it. Although the calf will not be on exhibit for several months, zoo guests will be able to view it via a live video monitor In the near future.  more...

New 3D Imaging Technology in Animal Hospital

A three-dimensional (3D) view does more than make for exciting movies in a theater, it can also improve the care of animals. The Chicago Zoological Society’s (CZS) Brookfield Zoo is the first North American zoo to use revolutionary 3D imaging technology with on-site digital radiology and CT equipment in its state-of-the-art animal hospital. The new technology allows the Society’s veterinarians to enhance two-dimensional CT (CAT) scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds with 3D models that will enable them to better treat zoo animals.  more...

125 science-minded students from 16 Chicago Public Schools took part in the 2012 CZS Science Fair on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. Judges included Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, Corey Correnti, senior vice president of marketing, sales, and supply for BP Products North America, Inc., Anita Alexander, Program Officer for Motorola Solutions Foundation, Eddie Arruza, correspondent and segment host for WTTW-TV’s Chicago Tonight, and Andrea Zopp, president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League, along with CZS Staff and Volunteers.  more...

Baby White-Cheeked Gibbon at Brookfield Zoo

There's a new kid on the Tropic World block and you should swing on by and see him! A male white-cheeked gibbon was born on November 15, 2011, and the almost two-month-old infant—along with his mom, Indah; dad, Benny; and 2-year-old brother, Thani—can be seen on exhibit in the zoo’s Tropic World: Asia exhibit daily between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  more...

2011 CZS Photo Contest Winners Announced

Nearly 400 images, including everything from snakes, lizards, and butterflies to lions, birds, and giraffes were submitted for the Chicago Zoological Society’s 2011 Photo contest. A panel of professional photographers judged the photos, from which they selected a grand prize winner and first-, second-, and third-place winners in adult and child (11 and under) categories. The winning photos are on display in Brookfield Zoo’s Discovery Center lobby. They may also be viewed online at www.CZS.org/PhotoContest.  more...
