Get Growing! Expo Sprouts Up at Brookfield Zoo on June 18-20

Brookfield, Ill. — If you’re interested in planting a garden, but don’t know where to begin or just want some fresh ideas for an existing one, then head to Brookfield Zoo for the Get Growing! Expo presented by Wintrust taking place Father’s Day weekend, June 18-20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit will feature beautiful garden displays and floral and home-related ideas that are sure to inspire and motivate guests to get planting in their own green spaces.

The Expo, designed for blossoming gardeners as well as those with a seasoned green thumb, will feature free educational seminars led by City Grange covering topics that matter most to gardeners. On-site sessions at noon, 2 p.m.  and 4 p.m. will explore plants for pollinators, food gardening tips and tricks, and the FUNdamentals of container design with annuals. Joining the City Grange team is Chicago-based author and illustrator, Flora Caputo, who will be sharing her expertise on using pollinator plants in containers. Make-N-Take Terrarium workshops are twice daily at 1 and 3 p.m.  Additionally, guests may purchase items from the Plant Truck Chicago, a mobile plant boutique.

Before or after checking out the Expo, be sure to also visit the animals, including the giraffe herd; Brutus and Titus, 5-year-old African lions; Hope and Hudson, the zoo’s polar bears; and the Mexican wolf pack at Regenstein Wolf Woods.

The Get Growing! Expo is free with regular zoo admission of $24.95 for adults, $17.95 for children 3 to 11, and $19.95 for seniors 65 and over. Children 2 and under are free. Parking is $15. For additional information, visit

About Get Growing Foundation
For the past three years, Get Growing Foundation (GGF) had been the cornerstone of The Chicago Flower & Garden Show® bringing education and year-round programming to the event. Due to the COVID19 pandemic, the Show was canceled just days before its March 2020 opening, but its programs and education continue to live on through the Foundation. Now as a stand-alone 501c3 nonprofit, GGF continues its mission to provide year-round educational programming and community outreach, including garden installations, to inspire interest in horticulture and the environment, especially among youth in underserved communities. GGF produces the Get Growing! Expo and operates Plant Truck Chicago, a seasonal mobile plant boutique providing access to much needed plant material in and around Chicagoland with a special focus on under-served communities.  For more information visit: and follow on social @TeamGetGrowing.
