Brookfield Zoo Celebrates Orangutan Caring Week: How You Can Help

Welcome to Orangutan Caring Week, a week-long celebration of these orange apes and the ways we can inspire action to support them. Each species of orangutans is either endangered or cricitially endangered due to deforestation, habitat loss, and hunting. By taking action yourself and inspiring change in others, we can help to slow this process and ensure that these highly intelligent creatures have a place to call home.

Polar Bear Participation in Voluntary Blood Collection at Brookfield Zoo

One of the best parts of being an animal care specialist is having positive, trusting relationships with the animals we work with. Here at Great Bear Wilderness, we developed an important behavior, voluntary blood collection, with our male polar bear, Hudson. This behavior allows animal care specialists and veterinary staff to closely monitor his health.

When Will the Indoor Buildings Reopen at Brookfield Zoo?

Since the beginning of the pandemic and our temporary closure between March 19 – July 8, mandated by the state, everyone here at the Chicago Zoological Society and Brookfield Zoo has been energized and inspired by the support we’ve received from our members, donors, guests, and community. We understand when many of our guests and members ask “When will the indoor buildings reopen?”
