Asian Small-clawed Otter Pups Beginning to Explore Home at
Brookfield Zoo’s Tropic World: Asia

Brookfield, Ill. — Brookfield Zoo’s Asian small-clawed otters pups—Otto, Otis, Wishes, Hermione (pronounced Her-My-O-Nee), Sachiko (pronounced SAH-chee-ko), and Olivia—were recently introduced to their habitat in Tropic World: Asia.

The two male and four female 4-month-old pups are still working on their swimming skills. At this time, guests will only be able to see the otter family for about a half hour when the building first opens at 10 a.m. As the pups’ swimming skills become more proficient, animal care staff will gradually increase the water level in the habitat’s river. Once the pups become more comfortable and acclimated to their home, their time on exhibit will gradually increase. Until then, otter enthusiasts can see updates of the pups and their parents, Pearl and Adhi (pronounced AHH-dee), on Brookfield Zoo’s social media channels.
