An unprecedented outdoor habitat for primates
Spanning nearly three acres, this incredible new experience will be one of the largest primate habitats in any accredited U.S. zoo. This new addition builds on Tropic World’s legacy, emulating the natural homes of gorillas, orangutans, and monkeys. Featuring four dynamic habitats and micro-climates modeled after Africa, Asia, and South America, Bramsen Tropical Forests is designed with the latest advancements in primate care and welfare to meet the unique needs of the Zoo’s primates.
Bramsen Tropical Forests marks a major milestone in the Zoo’s Next Century Plan and a leap forward in primate habitat design and conservation.
Conservation in action
Throughout Bramsen Tropical Forests, powerful stories of conservation unfold around every corner. In the vibrant pollinator gardens, guests can explore the vital role bees play in sustaining ecosystems across the globe. Nearby, sculptures created through the “Snares to Wares” initiative in Uganda bring an international conservation effort to life. Made from wire snares once used by poachers, the artwork tells the story of former poachers turned artisans who now protect wildlife through their craft. Their efforts transform danger into beauty and provide sustainable income while helping to save species in the wild. Visitors can also take direct action by recycling old cell phones at the Eco-Cell drop-off station within the habitat. This simple step helps reduce demand for coltan, a mineral mined in gorilla habitats, supporting the protection of these critically endangered animals.
A hub for inspiring conservation leadership
Alongside Bramsen Tropical Forests’ expansive outdoor habitats will be the Gorilla Conservation Center—an indoor hub for educational programs, fostering a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and environmental stewardship.
Above the Gorilla Conservation Center will sit the new home of the King Conservation Leadership Academy, equipping the Zoo’s future conservation leaders with a dedicated space for learning, animal observations, and connection.
A panoramic viewing experience for visitors
Guests of Bramsen Tropical Forests can observe primates and their natural behaviors up close through viewing areas designed for adults and children alike. Come face-to-face with a majestic silverback gorilla, spot spider monkeys clambering above you, or watch orangutans swing from both native and designed trees. Tactile features embedded throughout Bramsen Tropical Forests help guests form unique connections to the animals, learn about threats to their wild environments, and how to help protect wildlife.
