Quick reflexes and a good sense of smell are what help black and rufous giant elephant shrews survive forest life. With a flick of their long tongue, this little mammal quickly picks up food from the forest floor. They use their snout to turn over leaves and dig up food, and their longer hind legs help them flee quickly from predators like snakes.
