Join us on September 8 for the Brookfield Zoo Run - with courses entirely within the world-renowned Brookfield Zoo! Each year more species lose their race for survival and disappear from the wild. But it is a race we can win, and YOU CAN HELP! The Brookfield Zoo Chicago Animal Care and Conservation Fund is dedicated to making a difference for these species across the globe and with each race entry, we will raise both awareness and funds for this great cause. 

5K Chip-Timed Race/Walk 

 
  • Race rate (after July 14): $40 + signup fees 
  • Week of race rate (after August 31): $45 + signup fees 
 

1-Mile Kids Dash 

  • Race rate: $30 + signup fees*

RACE DAY SCHEDULE

6:30 a.m.
Registrants enter and check in at the North Gate Entrance. Guests and spectators can make their way to the Discovery Center lot after check-in.


8:30 a.m.
Chip-timed 5K race begins.


9:30 a.m.
1-mile kids race begins.


10:00 a.m.
Awards are announced in the Discovery Center parking lot.

Spectators 
Spectators may come with runners to help cheer them on and stay until the Zoo opens at 10:00am to enjoy the Zoo with their family and friends. Spectators must stay in the Discovery Center lot or Carousel area during the run. Anyone without a bib is not allowed on the run course. 

Awards 
Awards will be given out at 10:00 a.m. on the stage in the Discovery Center Parking Lot in the following categories: Top 3 Male, Top 3 Female, & Top 3 Kid 

Packet Pickup 
Packet Pickup will take place Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th from 10am-2pm in the North Gate Parking lot. Runners will also be able to pickup their packets from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on race day. Please arrive early if picking up on Sunday morning.   

FAQs

Can I walk the race?

Yes, you can walk the race. You will line up by mile time when you start the race.

Are strollers allowed?

Strollers are allowed during the 5K race. Runners/walkers with strollers will line up in a designated corral. Strollers are not permitted on the 1-mile course.   

Are wheelchairs allowed? 

Yes, wheelchairs are permitted on the course.
 

Are all runners chip-timed? 

Yes, all racers (including runners and walkers) are chip-timed. Official race results will be available via the QR code printed on your bib.
 

Is parking and admission included? 

Yes, all racers and their families and friends will receive free parking and admission by entering through the North Gate Entrance prior to the race. Simply present your run registration at parking and admissions for entry. 

 

Where can spectators cheer on their family and friends?

Spectators must remain in the Discovery Center lot, the starting and finish line locations for Zoo Run.  

 
My child is running the 1-mile race. Can I run with them?

Yes, if you feel your child may need assistance during the 1-mile run, you can run with them without registering. If you do not want to run with your child, please note course marshals will be present along the course to make sure children stay on the designated paths. We also recommend writing the phone number of a parent/adult on the child's bib, in case of emergency.  

What happens if it rains?

Zoo Run is a rain or shine race. In case of inclement weather, we encourage all participants to be prepared with proper clothing and footwear.
